Locate, feature, and nurture latent talent among under-resourced youth
History of Scholastic
Scholastic Talent, Inc. is the brainchild of longtime music educator, Dwayne Bass. Noticing that many students in the Capital Region lack access to quality performing arts programs such as the one he developed and leads at his school, he founded the Scholastic Talent Showcase to locate, feature, and nurture latent talent among under-resourced youth. The initial showcase was an overwhelming success.
Since 2013, Scholastic Talent Showcase performers have commanded stages throughout the region including the Empire State Convention Center, on the main stage at the Black Arts and Cultural Family Day sponsored by the New York State Department of General Service, and on a compilation album of their original works. The program has been endorsed by the New York Department of Education and bolstered by financial support from organizations such as the Charles Touhey Family Foundation and practical support from industry professionals with companies such as Viacom Media.
Today, Scholastic Talent, Inc. boasts signature out-of-school programs to cultivate not just the art but the artist.
