Our Checkmate Champions program welcomes learners in grades K–12 to explore strategy, creativity, and confident decision‑making in a supportive community. Together, we celebrate progress, build character, and open doors to new opportunities—one thoughtful move at a time.

K–12 After‑School Chess Program

Checkmate Champions invites K–12 learners into a warm, supportive community where strategy meets creativity and every student can shine.

Through engaging mini-lessons, puzzles, and guided play, participants build strong chess fundamentals, grow confidence, and practice leadership and sportsmanship.

Caring coaches nurture each child’s unique strengths with positive feedback and peer mentoring, helping every learner feel seen and celebrated.

Families are part of the journey with simple at-home challenges and a joyful showcase that honors progress. Together, we spark curiosity, build lifelong skills, and make big dreams possible—one thoughtful move at a time.

Program Overview

  • Duration: 8-week after-school program

  • Frequency: One session per week

  • Days: Tuesdays or Thursdays (choose one)

  • Time: 4:00–6:00 PM

  • Tuition: $125 for the full 8‑week session

  • Who Can Join: All skill levels, grades K–12

What You’ll Learn

  • Foundations: Board setup, piece movement, checks, checkmate, castling, en passant

  • Opening principles: Development, center control, king safety, basic opening ideas

  • Tactics toolkit: Pins, forks, skewers, discovered attacks, double checks, mating nets

  • Strategy: Planning, piece activity, space, pawn structure, weak squares

  • Endgames: King and pawn basics, opposition, rook endgame essentials, standard mates

  • Notation & analysis: Recording moves, simple game reviews, learning from mistakes

  • Time & tournament skills: Using the clock, pacing, etiquette, and confident play

  • Life skills: Focus, decision‑making, creative problem‑solving, empathy, leadership
